We just wanted to share this with you because we think it is totally cool and absolutely relevant for all kids and parents involved in The genAlpha Project!

Today Elon Musk and his team successfully launched their new rocket, the Falcon Heavy, from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The Falcon Heavy the most powerful operational rocket in the world by a factor of two. With the ability to lift into orbit nearly 64 metric tons (!!) a weight greater than a 737 jetliner loaded with passengers, crew, luggage and fuel!!

The team included a car (!) – a Tesla Roadster – as payload for the rocket. This is actually Elon Musk’s own old cherry-red Tesla sports car. A space-suited mannequin was strapped in the driver’s seat, and the radio set to play a David Bowie soundtrack on a loop 🙂 The car is now heading on a trajectory that will hopefully take it towards Mars’ orbit.

Thousands of people cheered on as the rocket lifted off and drifted out of view. Cameras showed the “core” section of the rocket dropping its two Falcon 9 boosters, which drifted back towards Earth to attempt vertical landings.

Following a flip manoeuvre, the late stage booster jettisoned its cargo, performing an atmospheric re-entry prior to its own vertical landing attempt on the barge, with the name: Of Course I Still Love You. 🙂
